Refunds are now possible in Payit

Organising events, courses or activities sometimes comes with the unexpected. A participant who falls ill. An emergency. A planned activity that suddenly no longer fits a busy schedule. Until recently, as an organiser, you had to contact Stripe manually, initiate a refund and inform the participant afterwards. It was cumbersome, error-prone and time-consuming.

From today, all of this is possible directly from Payit.

What’s new?

Organisations that process payments via Stripe with Payit can now refund a subscription with a single click. The participant automatically receives:

  • The full amount paid back to their account
  • A confirmation email with the refund details

As an organiser, you immediately see the subscription disappear from your list. It remains stored internally for accounting purposes, but is no longer actively visible.

Why did we build this?

We noticed that organisations - sports clubs, youth associations, schools, event agencies - were increasingly receiving refund requests from participants. Until now, there was no integrated way to handle this. Organisers had to work outside of Payit, which led to:

  • Human errors when manually entering amounts
  • Time wasted through back-and-forth emails
  • Frustration from participants who had to wait too long

With refunds directly in Payit, you close these gaps. You manage your registrations, payments and any refunds in one place.

Transparency about costs

Honesty is central to how we build Payit. When you initiate a refund, we show you a clear overview upfront:

  • The amount the customer receives back - always the full amount paid
  • A processing fee of €0.99 - a fixed contribution to cover Stripe processing costs

This €0.99 will be settled with your next incoming payment via Payit. No surprises afterwards.

How does it work technically?

When you confirm a refund, Payit automatically looks up the corresponding Stripe payment via the subscription ID. The refund is created with a full transfer reversal, meaning the amount is recovered from your Stripe account - not from Payit. This is the correct and secure way to handle refunds through a payment platform.

Who is this available for?

Refunds are currently available for all organisations that use Stripe as their payment provider via Payit. Do you use Mollie or another provider? We are exploring the possibility of extending this in the future.
